1. Tell Your Story- Be passionate enough when you tell your story that people are engaged and want to know more. This will lead to a deeper connection during interviews and as you work to build relationships as a school leader.
2. You Will Screw Up- Be prepared to fail at a lot of things as a 1st Year Principal and look for continual opportunities to grow.
3. Most Adults Can't Present- Many professional teachers do fine and well presenting information to young people, but struggle with the idea of doing the same to a group of their peers. This could be fear, lack of training, or a lack of imagination.
4. A Better Understanding of Myself as a Leader- I appreciate being challenged to examine my leadership style and beliefs towards all things leadership, and feel much better prepared to create a vision moving forward.
5. School Improvement Should Be Collaborative- A SIP plan should be the life blood of any school and the most effective way to do that is to involve the entire faculty in it's implementation. If a SIP plan does not serve as the lifeblood of your school, then it is not nearly ambitious enough.
